The Works Festival: Dublin's ultimate showcase of spoken word, music, and comedy

The eagerly anticipated Works Festival is set to return to Dublin on August 24th, 2024, promising a vibrant celebration of spoken word, music, and comedy. This year, the festival, organised in association with Poetry Ireland, Rascals Brewing Company, and Smithfield Creatives, will once again transform the historic CIE Hall in Inchicore into a hub of artistic expression, drawing performers from Dublin and beyond.

Organisers Adam Kelly and Danny Kilmartin have once again harnessed the creative potential of this unique venue, curating a diverse lineup that spans multiple disciplines. Adam Kelly, who has been at the helm of Smithfield Creatives since 2020, and Danny Kilmartin, a seasoned contributor to the Irish independent music scene since 2013, have brought together a dynamic roster of artists, musicians, poets, and comedians.

The CIE Hall, a local landmark known for its rich history as a community focal point for education, sports, and cultural programs, will play host to an impressive array of talent. Returning acts include the Chase Nova Band, Dubh Lee, Hot Mess, Luke Clerkin, Trope, Vagabond Queen, and Annie and The Witness, all of whom are sure to captivate the audience once again with their powerful performances.

This year’s festival will also introduce fresh faces to the stage, with debut performances by bands such as Sweltr, Geological Postal Service, Left Iris, and Sygh. The spoken word segment of the festival is set to shine, with poets Shivvy Hickey, Miranda Faul, and Leinster Poetry Slam and All-Ireland Poetry finalist Barry Currivan adding depth to the lineup. The event will also feature a new Comedy Corner, spotlighting comedians Justine Mulligan and Ally Daly, with additional acts to be announced.
