Ireland's Only Irish-Language Poetry Slam Returns
The much-anticipated Liú Lúnasa Slam Filíochta makes its grand return this month, promising to be one of the most vibrant events in Ireland's cultural calendar. Renowned as the nation’s premiere Irish Language Slam Competition, this year’s event is set to take place on 30th August 2024 at 8:00pm. Poetry enthusiasts from all corners are eagerly preparing for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.
Hosted at the Cultúrlann MacAdam Ó Fiaich cultural centre in Belfast, this slam is not just another event—it’s a celebration of the rich tradition of Irish-language poetry, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Liú Lúnasa, a fringe culture festival that has become a cornerstone of the community.
With tickets priced at just £5, the slam offers an accessible way for fans to engage with contemporary Irish-language poetry while supporting emerging and established poets alike. The competition is made even more exciting this year with generous prizes, thanks to the support of sponsors Raidió Fáilte 107.1FM, An Lon Dubh, Studio Feirste, and BLOC TG4. Competitors will vie for:
1st Prize: £500 (Sponsored by Raidió Fáilte, An Lon Dubh, Studio Feirste)
2nd Prize: £300 (Sponsored by BLOC TG4)
3rd Prize: £120 (Sponsored by BLOC TG4)
Poets eager to showcase their talent on this prestigious stage are encouraged to register by August 23rd to secure their spot in the competition. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator, this event is a unique opportunity to experience the power of spoken word in its purest form.
