Networking opportunity with spoken word performances at Culture Crush 2024
Culture Crush 2024, taking place on Thursday, 28th November at St. Mary’s Church, RDS, Dublin 4, will bring together Ireland’s creative professionals for a day of networking, inspiring spoken word performances, and discussions focused on the theme of "Collaboration."
Since its inception in 2023, Culture Crush has quickly become Ireland’s premier event for creative professionals across Film, TV, Animation, Games, Music, Immersive Technologies, Media, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts. Organised by Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet (CCIS) with support from Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, Skillnet Ireland, and Furthr, Culture Crush provides an essential platform to unite, inspire, and empower Ireland’s vibrant cultural and creative communities.
With a theme of “Collaboration” in 2024, this year’s event emphasises the power of partnerships across industries, bringing together creatives who often work in isolation to explore shared challenges, celebrate achievements, and forge new connections.
Culture Crush 2024 aims to address key challenges by building a cohesive space for collaboration and breaking down sectoral silos. Through its talks and panels, the event will examine sectoral growth, emerging opportunities, evolving roles, and common obstacles, sparking meaningful discussions on navigating the creative landscape in Ireland. Equally important is the event’s emphasis on celebrating success, offering a stage where Irish creatives can showcase their innovative work, fostering inspiration across the community.
This year’s lineup includes some of Ireland’s most influential voices in the creative industries. Nigerian-Irish spoken word poet Felispeaks is set to captivate audiences with her dynamic performance, celebrated for its profound insights into identity and social justice. Broadcaster Rick O'Shea, the founder of Ireland’s largest book club, will share his expertise in bridging literature with media. Renowned production designer Jill Beecher, known for her work on The Revenant and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will delve into the nuances of visual storytelling. Emmy-nominated composer Craig Stuart Garfinkle brings a wealth of experience from his work on World of Warcraft and various film scores, offering insights into music’s transformative power in storytelling.
Other esteemed speakers include Jess Majekodunmi from Accenture’s Human Sciences Studio, who will discuss the vital intersection of creativity and technology, and Emmy-winning visual effects supervisor Ed Bruce, known for his work on Game of Thrones, who will highlight Ireland’s thriving VFX industry. A.I. artist Karen Palmer, dubbed a “Storyteller from the Future,” will invite attendees into immersive experiences exploring artificial intelligence and surveillance, while comedian Sharon Mannion, known for Bridget & Eamon, promises a humorous take on the creative process.
Additional speakers include BBC Sounds podcast commissioner Dylan Haskins, composer Eímear Noone, celebrated for her music on World of Warcraft, and violinist and composer Colm Mac Con Iomaire, who will share his expertise in creating soundscapes rooted in Irish heritage. Anna Nolan from COCO Content, widely recognized for her work on First Dates Ireland, will discuss the evolving landscape of Irish television.
Beyond individual talks, panel discussions at Culture Crush will explore critical themes such as risk-taking, storytelling, navigating failure, and the behind-the-scenes mechanics of bringing creative projects to life.
Hosted at St. Mary’s Church, RDS, Dublin 4, the event promises a day filled with thought-provoking conversations, live performances, and networking opportunities, concluding with a dedicated networking session where creatives can deepen their connections and expand Ireland’s creative network.
