The Sunshine Tantrum Tour: A Nationwide Spoken Word Tour this July
The Sunshine Tantrum Tour 2019 presented by Boundless & Bare is a national tour for spoken word artists. Showcasing the talents of emerging and established performers across the island of Ireland to promote the art of spoken word to new audiences and communities, promoting poetry in a non-traditional fashion with elements of theatre, comedy and storytelling.
The shows are produced with the sole purpose to be enjoyed by everyone. Spoken word is fast becoming a popular art form and an important medium of expression across generations and backgrounds. Taking ordinary language and ordinary life experiences our spoken word artists raise issues close to the heart of the masses while producing extraordinary live literature spectacles and enjoyable experiences. The destinations for the 2019 Sunshine Tantrum Tour were selected to boost the imagination and skills of the Irish community of artists, and to push the boundaries for what spoken word can be.
Melissa Ridge, co-founder of Boundless & Bare, is the director and curator of the Sunshine Tantrum Tour which launched in 2018. In its first year The Sunshine Tantrum Tour collaborated with highly-regarded curators Moze Jacobs of The Bespoken Word in Clonakilty, Cormac Lally with Bare Festival in Carlow, Anna Jordan of Modwordsfest in Waterford and the crew behind Scene of the Rhyme in Tullamore. The artists included on the tour ranged from established to emerging from Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Limerick: Lewis Kenny, Ily Kuhling, Emmet O’Brien, The Poet Geoff, Chiamaka Amadi, to name a few.
The Sunshine Tantrum Tour 2019 will travel to Galway, Dublin, Cork City to collaborate with the Angry Mom Collective, and Waterford to take part in Modwordsfest this July. Spoken word artists from Glasgow and Ireland will join the line-up to bridge communities and showcase spoken word on a nationwide scale.
