New Alternative Group 7 Daughters
7 Daughters is a new alternative group mixing music and spoken word. Members are Conor O, Claus Esling Jensen and Abby Oliveira. The band is currently working on a 7-track album ‘Mother’, now is in its final stages of production, due to be released soon.
7 Daughters is a brand new independent act on Ireland’s vibrant music and spoken-word scenes. The trio formed in late 2018; their act features electronic production by Conor O , electric guitar by Claus Esling Jensen and spoken word by Abby Oliveira.
Conor O hails from Dublin city where he has performed and written with musical acts since his early teens with production and writing credits on numerous albums and projects.
Abby Oliveira is from Scotland, via Derry city. She is a writer, performer, lyricist, and theatre maker who has been an eminent female voice on the Irish spoken-word scene for over a decade. She performs regularly at events and festivals throughout the UK, Ireland & abroad. Her work is typically cross-genre; comprising elements of poetry, storytelling, rap, music, and physical performance.
Claus Esling Jensen is a guitar playing music aficionado who hails from Denmark but is now based in Bray, Co. Wicklow. He has honed his unique electric guitar sound through years of crafting experimental soundscapes awashed in guitar effect pedals sometimes mixed with synths and circuit bent toys.
7 Daughters’ story began back in 2018 when, looking around the soundscape of musical acts and noticing a lack of strong independent female voices, Conor O decided to make contact with Abby whom he had heard perform poetry in the past.
Having been previously one half of the King Mob project (with poet Karl Parkinson) Conor thought it was high time for a project which centred the strong female voice. Spurred on further by the passing of his mother, Conor O crafted electronic beats that were perfect for Claus’ whiskey nailed guitar licks and Abby’s visceral spoken word, and 7 Daughters was born.
Together the trio set about creating works that aimed to represent life in Ireland through the lens of the womens’ gaze within this fractured and transforming political and cultural landscape, taking listeners on a journey “across the mindscape of 7 women protagonists and their stories of life, awakening, and survival in present day Ireland…
“On a rollercoaster ride from searing, sore rage to simmering, soft surrender. From the back of the shops to the boundaries of fields to the sleep-deprived smoke-filled eyes of artists trying to swim through the sludge left by the long-dead corpse of the Tiger.
“The tracks are declarations of boundaries and intent, eye-witness accounts from the battle grounds and healing places, they are the things that happened when the high priestess of the soul took everything the fuck over, and what happened when she was denied.”
