Poetry Off the Page: Past, Present, Future

Poetry Off the Page: Past, Present, Future is a free public event exploring the evolution of spoken word in Ireland through live poetry performances, academic discussion, and open mic contributions. Taking place on April 24th, 2025, from 3:30–5:30 pm in the FitzGerald Debating Chamber at University College Dublin, the event features performances by Emmet O’Brien and Stephen James Smith, alongside a roundtable discussion with scholars and organisers including Paul Casey (Ó Bhéal), Lucy Collins (UCD), Claire Palzer (University of Vienna), and Melissa Ridge (Boundless and Bare).

The event aims to celebrate and critically engage with poetry performance in Ireland, offering a space for practitioners, students, scholars, and the general public to reflect on the past, present, and future of the art form. An open mic segment will invite audience participation.

Organised in partnership with UCD’s School of English, Drama and Film, Boundless and Bare, and the University of Vienna’s Poetry Off the Page project, the event is part of a broader five-year research initiative supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant and the START-Prize of the FWF.
