Captivating poetry takes centre stage in Fermanagh heat of All Ireland Poetry Slam

Tuesday night saw Blake’s of the Hollow host the Fermanagh heat of the All Ireland Poetry Slam, showcasing a captivating array of poetic talent. Organised by the Fermanagh Writers' group, the event was skillfully MC’d by the group’s chair, Jenny Brien. Despite a few absences, the event delivered an engaging evening of spoken word.

Four poets performed, though originally five had arrived to participate. The timing of the event also conflicted with other members of the Fermanagh Writers, as two were unable to attend due to illness.

Nevertheless, the poets who took part delivered impressive performances. First place went to Robert Elliott, a young poet from Maguiresbridge. Runner-up was Frankie McPhillips from Tempo, with third place awarded to Kate O'Shea from Enniskillen. Each poet brought their unique voice to the stage, earning well-deserved recognition for their talent.

Having qualified from the Fermanagh heat, these three poets will now move on to represent Ulster in the All Ireland Poetry Slam finals. Each province—Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster—will send three representatives to compete for the title of Ireland’s Poetry Slam Champion 2025. The winner will represent Ireland at the European Poetry Slam Championship 2025, bringing the vibrancy of Irish spoken word to an international audience.

The All Ireland Poetry Slam final will be held on November 30th at the Pearse Street Library in Dublin. The event is set to run from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. For more information on upcoming events visit our Gig Guide.
