Call-Out for Art Projects: Ballymun is Brilliant

Artists and creatives across Ireland are invited to submit their proposals for the Ballymun is Brilliant project, a unique initiative focused on climate action and community engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals or collectives from all artistic disciplines—visual artists, writers, musicians, dancers, and more—to create innovative works that reflect the challenges and opportunities around climate justice, with the Ballymun community at the heart of their work.

Ballymun is Brilliant is supported by the Government's Creative Climate Action Fund and is a collaborative effort between three organizations deeply embedded in the Ballymun community: Axis Ballymun, Global Action Plan, and the Rediscovery Centre. The project is set to continue until the end of 2025.

Key Details:

  • Deadline for Applications: 13th October (Midnight)

  • Location: Ballymun, Dublin

  • Application Fee: None

  • Budget: €2,000 – €10,000

  • Eligibility: Open to all creative individuals and collectives living on the island of Ireland, regardless of career stage.

The Ballymun is Brilliant project aims to explore the intersections of climate change, social justice, and the local environment through creative projects that resonate with the Ballymun community. Whether through public art, workshops, performances, or collaborative events, successful applicants will design works that are accessible, meaningful, and deeply connected to the area.

Artists will have the chance to engage directly with local groups and residents, making their art a conduit for meaningful conversations around sustainability and climate justice. The project encourages collaboration with local Ballymun artists, ensuring the work is rooted in the community's experience and culture.

What’s Expected:

Selected artists will develop and execute a project that reflects the themes of climate action and social justice. Proposals should include a plan for community engagement, such as workshops or events that invite local participation. In addition, the projects should be designed to be accessible to diverse audiences, from children to elders, reflecting the vibrant community spirit of Ballymun.

In return, Ballymun is Brilliant offers a project budget to cover artist fees, materials, and other necessary expenses, as well as support from the initiative's team in developing and promoting the project. Creators will also have the opportunity to showcase their work in community spaces around Ballymun, further embedding the project into the local landscape.

How to Apply:

Applicants are invited to submit their proposals via email to ballymunisbrilliant@globalactionplan.ie by the 13th of October (Midnight). Proposals should include:

  • A detailed project description (max 1 A4 page), outlining how the project addresses climate action and community engagement themes.

  • A CV, artist bio, or a brief explanation of the artist’s relevant experience.

  • A portfolio of up to 6 examples of previous works or mockups.

  • A proposed budget breakdown, including artist fees and materials.

Submissions can be made in written, audio, or video formats. Artists seeking support with their application are encouraged to reach out by October 8th for assistance.

Information Sessions:

To help guide applicants through the process, two online information sessions will be held:

  • Session 1: Thursday, 19th September

  • Session 2: Tuesday, 24th September

Individual 15-minute 1-2-1 sessions with the Ballymun is Brilliant team will also be available on the 23rd and 24th of September, as well as the 7th and 8th of October, for those needing further clarification or guidance before submitting their proposal.
