The Aspects Festival 2024 in Bangor, County Down, is shaping up to be an unmissable event for literature and arts enthusiasts. Running from the 25th September to the 6th October, this year’s festival offers a diverse programme that spans poetry, prose, politics, memoir, crime writing, and much more. Whether you're an avid reader, a writer, or someone with a passion for storytelling, there's something to pique everyone's interest.

For the spoken word community, several events stand out. On the 21st of September, the North Down Heat of the Poetry Slam at Studio 1A is a must-attend. This intense competition gives poets three minutes to perform their original work, with the best advancing to the All-Ireland Poetry Slam Ulster Heat on the 28th of September, also at Studio 1A. These events offer a thrilling showcase of poetic talent and are essential for anyone involved in or inspired by the spoken word.

Additionally, Hold Yer Tongue by Owen O'Neill on the 27th of September at Bangor Castle promises a unique blend of poetry and storytelling from an award-winning performer. The festival will also feature a Graveyard Tour at Bangor Abbey on the 28th of September, intertwining history, poetry, and music in a truly evocative setting. Finally, the Art of Storytelling workshop on the 30th of September at North Down Museum provides an opportunity to delve into the craft of oral storytelling, guided by Gail Johnston.
